We’re not flooded. We’re fine. Seriously.

High and dry, baby. Knock on wood.

Cedar Rapids, which is two hours north and east of us, got the worst of it. Iowa City’s still a mess. Northeast Iowa is the new Atlantis.

BBCWiHi is tucked safely in the western Des Moines ‘burbs, well away from the metro flood plain, which saw most of its damage downtown and just north of downtown.

And not nearly as much damage as you’d think. To wit: I ran down to the U.S. District Courthouse on Walnut Street for a work project just a few days after the downtown curfew was lifted, about a block from the Des Moines River. Ground zero.

There were a few sandbags piled up near the front door, but no water, or water residue, to speak of. None.

“How much water you guys get?” I asked the security guard.

He shrugged.

“None.”

So there ya go. Lessons learned from the Floods of ‘93, I guess.

But if you dropped a note or made a call, thanks. My old pal Jen Scroggins at The Cincinnati Enquirer — bless her mullet-loving heart — even asked in an e-mail last week if there was there anything I needed.

I said, yes. There is one thing. I need the White Sox to stop playing like a bunch of scared Little Leaguers whenever they see the damn Cubs.

Is that too much to ask, Lightnin’?

It’s official: We’re tyin’ the knot.

I did it.

I finally did it.

On Saturday night, I asked Courtney Suzanne Bower to be my wife.

She accepted.

Well, actually, she hesitated for what seemed to be an uncomfortably long time.

Then she accepted.

But whatever.

And so what if the ring didn’t fit?

I did it.

I finally did it.

Somebody just lost a bet.

Anyway, I’m launching this blog (‘BBCWiHi’ is short for ‘BBC Windsor Heights’) to spread the word — and to see if there’s anything else I can write/post here that won’t get me sued. Or fired. That would suck.

We’ll keep you posted when/if there’s pertinent news. Other than trying to figure out a way to convince the surviving members of Led Zeppelin to play at the reception, everything’s pretty much up in the air at this point.

But there’s this: Lee and the Notorious W.O.O.D. have already volunteered to co-chair the ‘Bachelor Party Committee.’ God help us all.

And now, a special message from this blog’s patron saint, Lightnin’ Hopkins:
