We’re not flooded. We’re fine. Seriously.

High and dry, baby. Knock on wood.

Cedar Rapids, which is two hours north and east of us, got the worst of it. Iowa City’s still a mess. Northeast Iowa is the new Atlantis.

BBCWiHi is tucked safely in the western Des Moines ‘burbs, well away from the metro flood plain, which saw most of its damage downtown and just north of downtown.

And not nearly as much damage as you’d think. To wit: I ran down to the U.S. District Courthouse on Walnut Street for a work project just a few days after the downtown curfew was lifted, about a block from the Des Moines River. Ground zero.

There were a few sandbags piled up near the front door, but no water, or water residue, to speak of. None.

“How much water you guys get?” I asked the security guard.

He shrugged.

“None.”

So there ya go. Lessons learned from the Floods of ‘93, I guess.

But if you dropped a note or made a call, thanks. My old pal Jen Scroggins at The Cincinnati Enquirer — bless her mullet-loving heart — even asked in an e-mail last week if there was there anything I needed.

I said, yes. There is one thing. I need the White Sox to stop playing like a bunch of scared Little Leaguers whenever they see the damn Cubs.

Is that too much to ask, Lightnin’?
